Impressive Site
Just back from 5 days in Mountain Forge Escape and have to say we will definitely go back again. We were greeted on arrival by a very helpful and pleasant young man named Charlie who showed us around before we set up. The site is quite open so we were glad to be in at the hedgerow, usually we would park the van beside the tent as a wind breaker but the pitch size didn’t allow for that, this along with the fact there is no form of shop onsite is my only criticism. Site staff walked the grounds regularly to check everyone was happy, toilet and showers were clean and the campers kitchen was a nice suprise to find it fully equipped with fridge, freezer, oven, hob, microwave, toaster and kettle plus all the makings of tea and coffee. Waste management was well set up for recyclables and waste, and if you didn’t want to separate as you went then a charge of €5 per general rubbish bag applied at reception. The site has a private lane to the nearby GAA field and playground. Nothing on-site as such for kids to do but there were plenty kids around to play soccer, hurling, ‘olympics’ etc. My tip; bring bikes. So much to do nearby but book everything in advance! We visited inchydoney beach and Warren Strand, beautiful blue flag beach with lifeguards and surfing. We also did kayaking at the Lagoon in Rosscarbery, the water park was fully booked, as was the high ropes at the Adventure Centre in Clonakilty. Smugglers Cove Tubing was a hit, they also have crazy golf and 2 mazes. We also visited the ambush site of Micheal Collins, the House museum looked impressive but sadly fully booked. Packed up and headed to Fota Wildlife on our way back! All in All, a fantastic trip and highly recommend this area for family camping!
